When you write an original story, lots of fan fic sights out there and that is actually where the readers are but I have three original ideas I would like to write someday

I don't have any good idea there. But you could try setting up a blog like several folks have here and link that to your fanfic wring profiles. If people who read your fanfics like your work, odds are pretty good they will check out your original stuff as well.

I find it's very hard to get people to read original fics - and it's more than understandale. I don't read random, unpublished authors either unless they're recommended or I know the author is good. So... for that reason, you'll not get very many. I find that just one positive comment about a story justifies it. But... you generally won't be read nearly as much writing original fic as you will with fanfic. If you're happy with your writing, google search for fiction magazines, journals and story competitions - all of these are looking for new authors to publish all the time. There is competition - everyone on Earth is writing a story these days - but if you like your work enough, try to get it published in these. And as Linders said, if you just want to write and put it online (like I do and many other people here do) then there are places. Fanfiction.net has a sister site - 'Fictionpress.com' - which is exactly the same but it's for non fan-fic. I think there is also 'WordPress', and there are other sites set up especially to host many authors' work, like this. Or if you know how, you can set up your own site. And if your work is short, you can stick it on Deviant Art, too. Personally, I find that I am more likely to be read on Tumblr - which isn't for stories really but no-one seems to mind me putting them there. Here's my profile there, for example. A profile there is easy enough to turn into a place to house your work. I'm not sure if that's what you were asking, but I hope it helps.
