My feelings are still hurt about 25th anniversary Javert. His singing seemed fine to me, and I really liked the sort of clipped, formal way of speaking he had. I did listen to Phillip Quast's version of Stars on YouTube, and I have to say I probably like them equally. Can we at least agree that 25th Enjolras and Eponine are good? I'm trying to watch the 10th anniversary version now, too. (The sound on my computer is acting up.) Colm Wilkinson has a great voice, but he's also a bit more Shatnerian than Boe. ( "You've done your duty, letherbe, she needs a DOCTORRR, nota JAAAAAIL!") I'm definitely looking forward to him playing the Bishop in the upcoming movie.

Oh Glow, no no no no. The 25th Javert will burn in hell for that performance. And Quast is the King of the Earth.
25th Enjolras and Eponine were actually excellent, if not the best I've seen!

At least 25th Javert can say his own name without snarling. Buch, you know nothing of Javert! (I was waiting all day to be able to use that.)
But yeah, 25th Enjolras completely sold the role of a posh young student who's extremely passionate about revolution. And he showed up the Jonas brother in every scene they shared. And I think it's safe to say I have a bit of a crush on him.
10th Enjolras couldn't really match up. He looked a bit too old for the part (I couldn't help but notice one of the students is practically middle-aged), and didn't quite have the same passion. I did read a comment saying the actor had a fever or something during that performance, so it might not be fair to compare them.

One of the best bits in the show, right there. Javert is so goddamn boss.

I actually rather like Javert as a character. I hate that he's so narrow-minded and determined to take Valjean in that he stalks Valjean for close to twenty years, but when I think about it - I understand where he's coming from. Everything in his world is so Black & White, there's no Moral Grey Area... so when he starts to see that Valjean is a Purely Good man, regardless of his history, and cannot comprehend the fact that Valjean (who, in Javert's single-minded view, had the most reason to want to kill him) had actually saved his life - not just spared it, but saved his life from the Friends of the ABC, he has no choice in his own mind but to end his own life... there's actually a line he says in the 1998 movie version (Javert was played by Geoffrey Rush): he says "It's a pity the law does not allow me to be merciful." And that's it exactly - he knows that Valjean does not deserve to be captured / punished anymore, but in his own mindset, a criminal is always a criminal, and can never be truly redeemed - and that breaks his mind.
I find that very sad, to be honest.

Indeed, such appalling taste.
I mean the man never smiles, it would be like kissing a knot on a tree.
