Sam Fisher: "Hi. I have a few questions." Indonesian Terrorist: "I- I don't speak English." Sam Fisher: "I'll be willing to bet your neck that you do..." Indonesian Terrorist: "Err- I know a little English!"

Vaas Montenegro: "Who gave you that ink? Huh? I asked you a question, who gave you that ink? Did Citra gave you that ink? My sister gave you that ink? You think that makes you one of us? You think that makes you like me? Huh? *tsk tsk tsk* California boy has got a hard on. The jungle fever, mang. I'm gonna drive...a bullet through my sisters skull. Like I did to your brother Grant."
Jason Brody: Fuck you!
Vaas Montenegro: "You are angry Jason. You are angry. Okay. I get that. I get it. I mean, With no family then what the fuck are we? There was a time that i would do anything for my sister. The first time I ever killed was for my sister. But it wasn't enough for her. Nononono no,please! This thing about loved ones, right? Our FUCKING LOVED ones! They come and they blindside you every fucking time. So they say to me, they say "Vaas, Vaas." WHO THE FUUUUCK IS IT GOING TO BE?!! THEM, OR ME?! MEEEE, OR THEM?! Like, like you know. Like they fucking think that i need to make a fucking choice. By the way, this lighter realy sucks. You know... so much for poetics. It's really to bad that Citra tried to ink you up. Cause now the only way to kill you is to erase you completely. (Talking to Lucy) Its okay. Dont cry. Its okay. (back to player) Jason. I swear the god, man. It's truly beautiful... that you're willing to die for the ones you love... *lights gasoline trail on fire*

"People always enjoy a good fable. M'aiq has yet to find one, though. Perhaps one day." - M'aiq the Liar, Oblivion (referencing the release of Fable which Peter Molyneux was touting as the "Morrowind Killer")

M'aiq, had a few good ones. He took more than a few pot shots at TES's fanbase as well. The exact quote escapes me but tehre was one where he was something like, "People are always complaining that there there are no children. M'aiq does not understand what the fuss is. M'aiq is happier not having the noise and fuss of them around."
People kept bitching and moaning about them not being in the game so Bethsoft "rewarded" them with Little Lamplight in Fallout 3 and made it a required quest area. There are some seriously nasty snarkers on Bethsoft's team.

People kept bitching and moaning about them not being in the game so Bethsoft "rewarded" them with Little Lamplight in Fallout 3 and made it a required quest area. There are some seriously nasty snarkers on Bethsoft's team. This one he said in Oblivion: "M'aiq believes the children are our future. But he doesn't want them ruining all of our fun." My personal favorites of M'aiq for meta-snarking. "M'aiq is very practical. He has no need for mysticism." "Nords are so serious about beards. So many beards. M'aiq thinks they wish they had glorious manes like Khajiit." "M'aiq can travel fast across the land. Some lazy types take carriages. It is all the same to M'aiq." "What does this mean, to combine magic? Magic plus magic is still magic." "M'aiq does not remember his childhood. Perhaps he never had one." "Some like taking friends on adventures. M'aiq thinks being alone is better. Less arguing about splitting treasure." "So much easier to get around these days. Not like the old days. Too much walking. Of course, nothing stops M'aiq from walking when he wants." "M'aiq prefers to adventure alone. Others just get in the way. And they talk, talk, talk." "Levitation is for fools. Why would we want to levitate? Once you are up high, there is nowhere to go but down." "It is good the people wear clothing. M'aiq wears clothing. Who would want to see M'aiq naked? Sick, sick people. Very sad." "Feet are for walking. Hands are for hitting. Or shaking. Or waving. Sometimes for clapping." "I do not wish to fight on horseback. It is a good way to ruin a perfectly good horse... which is, to say, a perfectly good dinner."

I don't remember Little Lamplight with any negative feelings... But that's probably because I barely remember it.

Side note: I think the Adoring Fan of Oblivion was a not-so-subtle hint as to how Bethesda was intending to do children.

Actually I think the Adoring Fan was kind of like Conrad Verner from Mass Effect. A massive dig at the public perception of their own fans desire to self insert.
And little Lamplight was not the problem. The bratty kids mouthing off at you from behind the veil of programmed invulnerability and being forced to interact with was. I really don't go around fantasizing about infanticide but playing through that segment made me understand the want of some of the players to just off those brats.

Wrex: "So, Garrus, is this better than C-Sec?"
Garruss: "Tracking down a traitor and his army of renegade AIs without rules in the way? Damn right, this is better than C-Sec."
Wrex: "There may be hope for you yet, turian."

I actually missed the elevator conversations in the later games. Hearing Wrex talk with the rest of the crew was always good.

- Chris Avellone on romance in video games. Why is he so based?

Wow, Avellone is a great writer but I have to wonder what deep dark destruction happened in his life to put him that place.

He just thinks romances in RPGs are kind of shitty. I agree with him. The increase in waifu crap was part of why I liked Mass Effect less and less with every installment, I think. I just wanted to explore space, y'know?

Romances in games are shitty. They are mostly a waste of time and often very bad fanservice. They are kinda unavoidable in interactive storytelling, I just have not seen it done well quite yet. Even The Witcher 2 fell short and they at least tried to get to the messier side of things (not talking the sex scenes here). That's not what I'm talking about though.
When some one says something like "Also, the only reason the romance bits in Mask of the Betrayer worked was because George Ziets helped me with them since he was able to describe what love is to me and explain how it works (I almost asked for a PowerPoint presentation). It seems like a messy, complicated process, not unlike a waterbirth. Don’t even get me started on the kissing aspects, which is revolting because people EAT with their mouths. Bleh."
He's not just talking about crappy romance in games there. He talks like an alien who watches people from the outside and can't quite understand why happy couples are in love. It's he's never experiences it himself. That's what I mean about him being in a dark place when he said that.
