Well best to an era where you have a lot of comics about such as the 80's or 90's or something. Then ask yourself if your character is a mutant or not what powers....

Already got my character stuff down. I'm thinking it'll take place pre Mutant Registration Act/Civil War era.

Forget about whatever I said I was writing the last time I posted in this thread, my new story will be a day-in-the-life fic about one of the Horizon settlers. It's gonna be my darkest work yet, man. The word "Dark" is even in the title!

I've been thinking of picking up my Elizabethan-era Assassin's Creed fanfiction again . Yep, playing Assassin's Creed II never fails to make me want to write fanfiction. I tell you, if I had the slightest bit of artistic talent, I would be doing this as a fan comic like Tillian's "Paragons of the Hierarchy" thing she's working on. I surf Wikipedia a lot. It's my form of doing research. This guy is perfect Templar/Baddie material! I've gotta include Sir Francis Walsingham and Shakespeare, too. Wouldn't be Assassin's Creed without as many famous historical figures as possible shoehorned in!

I suppose you already know by now that I'm starting to work on a DA fan fic about a beautiful/weird friendship between an appostate and a demon. When I mean friendship I do not mean abomination or blood mage crap. Think of it as the darker version of the spirit healer type. Currently working on Chapter one, where the setting and time takes place in Kirkwall in Act 3 of DA2, with a liberaties taken from the lore, so I can take the piss out of it.

I am writing a boatload of Halo: Reach fanfiction, about which I am still slightly ashamed/ having the time of my life. I also occasionally manage to do something original. The current original project is this plotless poetic thing about a girl living in Arizona and going to see movies.

I have all sorts of conflicting ideas about an original fantasy story. The idea is that there would be little fantasy in there, and magic would an unseen, rumoured quantity whose existance or lack of is a big part of the plot - symbolising Christian faith in the Dark Ages.
I don't know, though. Fantasy is new to me, medieval history is extremely new to me. For some reason I'm excited about this though.

I think you should read 'Game of Thrones'. I know I said it before, but really the things you just said are all in there. A song of Ice and Fire does have some magic in there, but not a lot, as in it cant be seen. Even the mythical portions of it, like dragons, have sort of passed on, like dragons are extinct now. But that's going into spoilers now.
Buy that novel and see where it takes you. Note that novel is pretty big on politcal intrigues and such, but i think you can get sometihng out of it.

You know, you're not the first person to suggest that one for research on this. Cheers, Gorvar, I'll consider it.

I've mention that I'm working on a steampunk fantasy epic about albino woman, her shapeshifting elven husband (past) and her dragon a few post back. I'm retconing the lore a bit atm, but not to the extent of doing an ass pull like Gaider and actually turning it into a design document for my future game.
Who knows, I might make a good action/adventure dragon riding game someday. If not, well I'm doing a comic instead as usual.

You would be suprised how many Mini-games on the Internet have good stories to go with it plus good gameplay. I think Shadowwing is one, Adventure Quest has loads of storylines going on mixed with humour a la Discworld.
Still i'm jealious of your artistic skills though, i have to fall back on hoping my stories will come out in book form someday, or a comic if i find someone willing to draw my stuff.

Working on the long awaited sequel to "Cole Phelps The Fastwards Stroke". "Cole Phelps: Gets His Revenge" will be set after the events of L.A. Noire and feature more darkness and stuff like that.
Watch this space!
